The Itty-Bitty Biter Fairy: An Everkind Tale

5- Star Reader’s Favorite Review

Reviewed by Emily-Jane Hills Orford for Readers’ Favorite

In Everkind, Haven Ruth, the smallest fairy, is also known as the Biter Fairy. In Gael JB Orr’s The Itty-Bitty Biter Fairy, Haven Ruth has quite the temper, and she resolves it by biting anyone nearby. All the other fairies have bite marks from Haven Ruth’s temper. No one knows what to do to help Haven Ruth curb her temper and stop biting. Siblings Peyton and Penelope decide it’s time to take action. They can’t discipline Haven Ruth because Everkind doesn’t believe in discipline. So, they seek out the kind dragon, Bill, who once had a temper that was out of control. He curbed his anger, and he has some ideas on how to help Haven Ruth curb hers. He teaches the girls the dragon code, a song to help, and gives them his prized squishy green dragon toy. Will it work? Will Haven Ruth be able to stop biting?

Gael JB Orr’s book, The Itty-Bitty Biter Fairy: An Everkind Tale, is a fairy tale for young readers to help them deal with sudden mood swings. I appreciate that the language is simple, making it easy for young readers to follow along. I love the illustrations, which are bright, bold, and colorful, adding a distinctive element to the plot development. I find it interesting that the author decided to lay out the story to help readers at different levels, with each part of the plot including a shorter read for younger readers and a fuller story for older children. The end of the book reviews the Dragon Code and provides the lyrics of the dragon’s special song (which is sung to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star). I love the use of music (and the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle) to emphasize positive mood swings. This is a great way to help young readers and families work together as they transform from anger to peace and tranquillity.

Coming this Spring!

When big feelings come out as biting, this story shows kids what to do instead.

The Itty-Bitty Biter Fairy is a gentle, beautifully illustrated children’s book that helps little ones understand their big feelings and learn safer ways to express them. Through warmth, humor, and heart, Haven Ruth discovers that even dragons can learn new ways to use their fire. The Itty-Bitty Biter Fairy is an interactive Everkind tale designed to help children who bite or lose control during overwhelming moments. Through playful movement and the memorable Dragon Code, the story gives children a concrete, repeatable way to release big feelings safely and regain control,  transforming challenging behavior into confidence-building skills.

The Itty-Bitty Biter Fairy is a children’s picture book about toddler biting and emotional regulation. This illustrated story helps young children learn how to stop biting and express big feelings with words instead of hurting others. Ideal for parents, preschool teachers, daycare providers, and counselors looking for a gentle social emotional learning book for ages 2 to 6.

A Gentle Story About Biting, Big Feelings, and Learning Kind Choices

In Sparkle Forest, even the smallest fairy can cause the biggest commotion. Haven Ruth may be little, but when her feelings boil over, she bites. Soon, the villagers of Everkind are dodging tiny teeth and searching for a way to help.

Instead of scolding, Everkind’s cinnamon-loving dragon teaches Haven what to do when big feelings surge and how to express them safely. Slowly, the biting fades, replaced by safer ways to express what she feels.

This story is designed to grow with your child. It offers a shorter read for wiggly listeners and a deeper conversation for moments when you are ready to talk about feelings, frustration, and self-control.

Perfect for:
• Parents navigating toddler biting
• Preschool and daycare classrooms
• Counselors and early childhood educators
• Families who value emotional intelligence and kindness

I write stories for children, and for the people who sit beside them while they are being read. These gentle fairy stories are written to be enjoyed as read-aloud books, making them perfect for bedtime, classrooms, and family reading time.

My stories make room for big feelings, curious questions, and the quiet conversations that help families understand each other. At their heart, these stories are about kindness, courage, and learning how to understand ourselves and the world around us.

Why These Stories Matter

I write these stories to build a connection between children and their caregivers. Childhood passes quickly, often faster than our hearts are ready for. These stories invite us to pause, imagine, and gently develop the values children carry into their world.

Through talking insects, curious creatures, and fairies with wonderfully human quirks, the Everkind world helps children explore courage, belonging, forgiveness, and self-worth. The lessons are gentle, the humor is real, and sometimes a story can say what the heart has been trying to.
